Thanks to exotic big game and abundant native Rio Grande turkeys, Apache Springs is a year-round hunting destination." Ray Sasser, Meridian, Texas We started our Whitetail Management Program in the spring of 1990, shortly after we acquired the ranch. Two objectives drove us in those years...to enhance the incredible springs on the property and to manage the whitetail deer herd to our South Texas Ranch standards. During the next five years, we reduced the exotic wildlife herd, started an aggressive high protein whitetail supplemental feeding program and reduced the female deer to the carrying capacity of the native habitat. Starting in 1993 and continuing to the present day, we trapped, transported and transplanted Sombrerito Ranch whitetail bucks and does into the existing native deer herd. Our efforts were rewarded when we harvested our Apache Springs Double Drop-Tine Buck that scored 187 gross B&C in 1995. After that, it has been a toss-up every year, as to which ranch, Sombrerito or Apache Springs, would produce the highest scoring whitetail bucks. Then in the 2000 Season, an Apache Springs non-typical buck scoring B&C 202 gross was taken by our good friend, Jim Shrieve. That buck signaled our Hill Country Management was on the right track, but I still enjoy working everyday to improve the habitat and the quality of our Apache Springs Whitetail Deer Herd." Guest Houses We have built first rate facilities for our Guests. We have Guest houses to accommodate even those used to five star accommodations. Our Guest houses are equipped with all of the modern conveniences of home. The Hunting Lodge Our Hunting Lodge has sleeping quarters and plenty of room for you to relax in between hunts to rest up for the next one. We have a chef on staff at all times to cook you your meals. The smell of home brewed coffee and Breakfast cooking every morning at 5:30am sharp wakes you to a day that will be filled with hunts that only dreams and Apache Springs Ranch are made of.
